Your Divine Nature – Are You All In?

2 Peter 1:4 exhorts us with these powerful words! “You have been given exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be PARTAKERS OF THE DIVINE NATURE, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.”
To be partakers of His divine nature is to experience the supernatural help of His Holy Spirit in our lives. God wants us to seek Him for revelation and understanding of the Spirit filled life. That is God saying, “I want you all in!”

Most Christians aren’t “all in.” Far too few Christians have experienced what Peter called “partakers of the divine nature” because of their fear and apprehension to go “all the way for God.” They think, “What will happen if I give myself totally over to God? I’ll look like some religious weirdo if I try to continuously change and be like Jesus.” “I can’t get overboard on this God stuff.” “My friends and family will think I flipped out.” “I wouldn’t be like normal people.”

These are some of the same thoughts that keep people from becoming a Christian in the first place. When I first became a Christian, I thought that people who really loved God too much became a little weird. I mean they talked about praying and worshipping God all the time. They were at church every time the doors were open. It seems like their entire life revolved around God. The truth is, every person – Christian or not has their own quirks and the funny part is, most do not see their own quirkiness. God doesn’t make you strange or weird. God helps you become whole and gives your life purpose. When you give yourself totally over to God, people will think you have become a little peculiar. That’s what God said He would do in us. “Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself A PECULIAR PEOPLE, zealous of good works.” Titus 2:14

My family thought I was nuts at first! “You mean you go to church on Sunday morning and Sunday night?!” “Why?” They could only think of their religious services where they thought about getting home to watch the football game or to eat and read the Sunday paper because their service was so boring. “And you go to church Wednesday night too?” “And then you help people on other days???” “Do you even have a life?”
Sure I do. An awesome life. Filled with friendships with wonderful and godly people who would be there for me in a hard spot. I life full of purpose because according to the Word of God, all I do carries reward for me in this life and the one to come. “And if anyone gives even a cup of cold water to one of these little ones because he is my disciple, I tell you the truth, he will certainly not lose his reward.” Mat 10:42

My drawing closer and closer to God and letting negative thinking, attitudes, and behaviours drop from my life has been very much a process. It did not happen over night. I desire to be more and more like Jesus yet I have never thought of myself as weird nor do I think anyone else sees me that way today. But, maybe some do. If so, that’s okay! If they don’t know Jesus, they couldn’t understand what the purpose for our life is. Regardless, my entire life is about God. He has fashioned me into a “peculiar people” for Him.

You and I were created to be partakers of God’s divine nature and to be “all in” for Him. He wants to help you be a Christian living a life continuously touched by His power, and with His power flowing from you to others. He wants to be an ever-present help in your life, your heart and your thoughts! It is not a weird life. It is a divine life you’ve been called into. Peculiar? Maybe, but in a way that is pleasing to God. “Are you all in?”

Titus 2:13 -14 “Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Savior Jesus Christ; Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.”
