I hope one of the reasons you are reading this is because you have been blessed by my devotions I call Fresh Manna or my Tweets that I send out hourly to help bring God’s word to those that have never read a Bible. If you don’t know who I am or much about me, I encourage you to read my “About Me” page.
I have been writing Fresh Manna since the year 2000. I have written four times a week for the past 18 years. Until the beginning of 2017, I have never had a donate button on my site nor have I ever asked for a penny. To the contrary, I have not wanted to receive anything, but only to give. And let me quickly get to the bottom line if you don’t have time to read all this! We don’t take a penny for ourselves of what is given!
Though my calling has been in pastoring a church for the past 37 years, writing Fresh Manna has been a way for me to reach beyond the four walls of the church. What started as act of obedience to the Lord in the the year 2000, has turned into the honor of reaching the world with the gospel, and the joy of touching the heart of millions with the teaching, love, and grace of Jesus Christ. Twitter and writing Fresh Manna together have become the vehicle for that privilege! When I first started writing, I had no idea that it would evolve to the point it has today. 18 years later, Fresh Manna has now been read in over 217 countries (195 official and 22 unofficial). I have people write me daily with their thanks, their kind words, their problems and their requests for prayers. I’ve done my best to respond to the majority of them.
I began using Twitter in 2008 to increase reaching more people with the love of Jesus, and I now have over 175,000 followers who each have their own follower base. My tweets on Twitter, which are almost exclusively about the love of God, are re-tweeted (re-sent out by others) thereby reaching 3 to 6 million people virally on a daily basis. Those who follow me on Twitter also communicate with me and often ask for prayer or guidance. I also respond to almost every one of those people. Needless to say, this has become a labor of love which I have adjusted my life to accommodate. I gave up Marathon running to free up hours of daily running so that I could do this. It has been well worth it. I retired from 35 years of pastoring in a church in May 2017 so that I could devote this and mission work with my wife Renee as we walk out this next season of our calling.
Because of the growth of this ministry, there have been increasing expenses which in the past, we had always paid for out of our own pocket. As we’ve reached more and more people in different ways, expenses have also increased. So, in 2017, we added a donation button for the first time of this outreach. Donations will continue to help me write and expand the publication of Fresh Manna on the web. It will also pay for the cost of sending the email subscriptions that are and always will be free to Fresh Manna readers. Your donations also help cover very small administrative fees such as PayPal and WordPress. Renee and I take no salary of any kind from this ministry. It is our labor of love to the Lord and those we reach. The continuing expansion of Fresh Manna’s reach and work on the mission field will be the primary focus of all donations.
We have children on the mission field: my daughter Stephanie, her husband Daniel Gutierrez, and my two granddaughters Madeline and Macy! They live in the developing third world country of Peru and we hope to do more to support them in their amazing work. They are helping lead a missionary church of thousands, and reaching the lost and impoverished continuously and in a variety of ways. They also help support an orphanage in Peru that takes in abandoned fully-disabled children who cannot care for themselves. They would most likely die if they were not cared for here.
Missionaries in some countries are not allowed to make a wage in that country. That is the case in Peru. Their missionary work survives solely by the donations that help them do their work. We’ve taken a step of faith this past year, increasing on efforts on the mission fields of Peru, India, and recently adding Africa. If you would like to read more about this work, please read the post An Inspiring Work of God!
I pray that my posts been a blessing to you. Thousands of you have personally written me testifying how Fresh Manna has helped you. I give the Lord the glory for that and thank you for letting it touch your heart. Many people over all the years have asked if they could donate. Some have said they didn’t have a home church to tithe to and wanted to send it to me. Others loved the work we were doing and wanted to be a part of it. It was for that reason and the Lord’s instruction, that I finally decided to give place to donations.
